My No 1 job as First Lady is to be First Mom
Michelle Obama A few weeks ago at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, I shared with the nation some of the many reasons why I believed my husband would be an extraordinary president. It was the biggest speech I’d ever given. When I was finished, I headed backstage with my daughters. They turned to me, breathless with excitement. “Mom,” Malia, our ten-year-old, said. “We have...

Email from my Mom on my Prop 8 Petition Email
antikris: Amein!  S.F. City attorney and Gloria Allred are both filing suits in Supreme court this week, contesting that Prop. 8 is unconstitutional, as it prohibits a protected group from certain rights.  Hopefully, one of these will prevail.  Meanwhile, State Attorney General Jerry Brown (former CA. governor) has declared that the people who got married within the window of time when the State...

King: You recently issued one of your new rules decreeing that Obama must give comedians something to work with. Any suggestions? Maher: No. It’s very difficult. We have been spoiled, first with Bill Clinton and then George Bush. And here’s a president now who — he’s not stupid. He’s not angry. He’s not a phony. He’s not fat. He’s not cheating on his...

Just got the news...
It’s been a really rough year. My mom just called to tell me that my dog, a 10 year old sable collie is going to be put to sleep this coming Monday.  In the past 18 months, I’ve lost a close aunt, my father and what will now be both of my dogs.  I’m getting married in 2.5 weeks and just need a little bit of joy.  There’s been far too much death.

– Rahm Emanuel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (via derbygirl) (via soupsoup) I wonder how much truth there is to this.  I loved the West Wing.  Josh never sought elected office, he was always a behind the scenes guy.  Really, the only noticeable similarities I see are perhaps that they both...

Whoopi Goldberg: "We Have Finally Become Part of...
Whoopi Goldberg reacted to the election news at wowOwow: A moment about history. Tonight as I watched the numbers come in, I was cautiously optimistic that there would be a big change — but I wasn’t fully convinced. And then I called my mom, and the numbers kept changing and moving forward, and I said to her, “Ma, did you ever in your life think you would see this day?” And...

Richard Belzer: The Most Important Election?
It’s not hype to say that this is the most important American election in history. I’m saying that because FDR was already in office when the Second World War started. And Lincoln was established before before the Civil War began. Not only is there no incumbent President or Vice President on the ballot this time, this election has boiled down to “Who are we?” and...

Back in July, I wrote a piece predicting a huge Obama win. I even offered a recipe for an Election Night drink called the “McCrush” (vodka and Orange Crush over crushed ice, served in a hollow flip-flop with a sprig of pandering). But that was an electoral eternity ago — before the phenomenal rise of Sarah Palin, the phenomenal collapse of Wall Street, and the phenomenal scalp of...

Ross Tuttle: McCain vs. Nuclear Safety
Last week during a rally in Iowa, John McCain mocked Barack Obama for expressing concern over the safety of nuclear energy. “It has to be safe, environment, blah, blah, blah…” he said to a cheering, partisan crowd. “I have news for Senator Obama, nuclear power is safe, we ought to do it now.” McCain’s cavalier attitude toward nuclear safety, where he holds in...

Fred Goldring: The Power in a Genuine Obama...
I’ve been thinking a lot recently about an article I read some years ago. The author had asked about 50 people how they would define the word “power”. There were the usual responses one might expect, such as “rich and famous”, “strength” or “being able to have anything you want”. But one particular definition jumped out at me — and has...

Answers to Katiebakes
brianvan: 4. I left my phone on the roof of our rental car in Mississippi and then drove away. The phone was later found run over in the dirt. I contend that a lady on an ATV ran it over, while Krucoff thinks it was me. At any rate, it now only works in certain locations, none of which are located in my neighborhood. So, I think I need a new phone. Is there anyone who would advise me to...
